Instructional Course Lectures at the annual congress

Contribute to the next SECEC Congress programme!

SECEC gives the opportunity to full and corresponding members to submit an application for an ICL to be presented during the annual congress (Rotterdam - 17-19 September 2025). The ICLs aim to provide high level up-to-date scientific content to shoulder and elbow practitioners and to encourage unbiased practice in order to improve daily care.

The ICLs can address basic or advanced topics:

  • basic: answers general questions on shoulder and elbow diseases such as instability, stiffness, arthritis, fractures, cuff tears, ... In such ICLs, the following points are addressed : epidemiology, natural course of the disease, diagnosis (examination and imaging), conservative treatment, surgical treatment, rehabilitation, literature review and take home message.
  • advanced: answers specific questions on shoulder and elbow procedures.

The ICLs are presented during a 1-hour session (one chair + no more than 4 speakers).

Application information


The ICL Chair should:

  • complete the application form,
  • be a full or corresponding member,
  • have participated at least once in a podium presentation or moderation,
  • have participated in at least 2 of the recent SECEC congresses.

The ICL Speakers should :

  • be SECEC members or apply for membership before the ICL is validated,
  • represent various countries (no more than 2 speakers or 1 chair and 1 speaker from the same country),
  • be shoulder and elbow professionals (maximum 1 speaker can come from different fields of interest : biomechanics, engineering...),
  • show a disclosure slide, after the title, to clearly highlight bias with the topics of the presentation and company support if applicable,
  • not represent a company.


Bias

  • The ICL should not be limited to a device only produced by a single company,
  • In case of shoulder or elbow prosthesis, at least two companies must be involved in the discussion with different presenters.


Format

  • All courses should provide at least 30 minutes of discussion, no more than 45 minutes of presentations,
  • for interaction purposes, the chair should provide 4 Multiple Choice Questions.


Other

  • the SECEC Education Committee is responsible for reviewing the ICL applications and for building the ICL programme (upon final approval from the SECEC Executive Committee),
  • an ICL can be repeated if it is in the best three,
  • no reimbursement will be provided by SECEC for the presenters’ expenses.
