Dominik Meyer 1970-2019
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We have the painful task to inform you that Dominik Meyer, MD, Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Zürich and former Head of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Balgrist University Hospital has lost his battle against an incurable illness on December 15., 2019.
He has been a role model for any academician, researcher and medical practitioner and a friend whose curiosity kind- and graciousness will not be forgotten. At the age of just 49, he has left us far too soon.
Over a 20 year period as a resident, staff member, team leader, consultant and finally as Deputy Director of the Department of Orthopaedics, he has shaped his environment and profoundly influenced orthopaedics and in particular shoulder and elbow surgery. His modesty, his honours and scientific awards as well as his exceptional wife and four children bear witness to his outstanding commitment to improving the human condition.
Dominik Meyer leaves a very large void. His patients and his students remember his humour, intelligence, empathy and dedication. We are greatly indebted to him and will always cherish his memory.
